• The March was organized by the Movement for Victims of State Crimes (MOVICE). During an emotional performance, women bereaved by disappearances and killings carry miniature coffins in their hands and let the ashes that represent the deceased fall into the street and onto the hands of passers-by. With the hope for justice, the women repeat over and over again: “Because the last word has not been spoken.”
• “This demonstration has as its objective the denunciation of the continual dispossession that takes place in Colombia that also includes some State actors,” explains Franklin Castañeda, national spokesperson for MOVICE and President of the Foundation for the Committee in Solidarity with Political Prisoners, organisation accompanied by PBI Colombia.
• The Victims and Land Restitution Law, which attempts to respond to the serious rights violations that millions of Colombians have suffered due to the armed conflict, has generated polemical debate.
• MOVICE has criticized that the Law because it excludes many victims and fails to offer integral reparation. Furthermore, one of the principle challenges of land restitution is the protection of community leaders. “During the Government of Juan Manuel Santos some 59 people have been killed, the vast majority involved in demanding land restitution,” says Franklin Castañeda.
• Members of ASFADDES also participated in the March to remember the thousands of disappeared. In July 2011, the Prosecutor General’s Office recognized more than 16,000 forced disappearances.
