It was a pleasure accompanying Franco with whom we shared much laughter and smiles. He never got tired of explaining his project to us, taking time to answer our many questions. The same can be said for the group of people we had the pleasure of accompanying during our trip to the beautiful Nordeste Antioqueño.

  • Arriving in Lejanías, our car got stuck in the mud as a result of previous rain.
  • On the way to our first destination: Mulatos (hamlet discovered by Don Macías).
  • Don Macías looking after his horse after the long journey.
  • Don Macías, “The singer of Lejanías”.
  • Don Macías.
  • From left to right: Wilman González (member of the Acvc-RAN field team in the Nordeste anioqueño and son of rural leader and co-founder of the Acvc, Miguel Ángel González Huepa) and Franco Gómez (technical team coordinator for the Acvc-RAN).
  • “It is difficult to imagine the pain that this area has suffered when walking through the peaceful jungle of Nordeste Antioqueño (…) far from the noise of the cities and political controversies that consurme the country”.
  • The environmental impact of the cutting down of trees in the areas is clear.
  • Tocayo, rural worker from the area and active participant in the biological characterisation, he guided us through the jungle close to the camp, sharing his knowledge of the region (context as well as flora and fauna), showing us the different areas where cameras had been placed for the research. Thanks to his sharp eye we saw a particularly venemous snake called “x”.
  • Walk through the jungle.
  • A few brave people posed without fear of falling in the water: Franco Gómez (Acvc-RAN), César Solarte (Acvc-RAN y Prensa Rural), Leily Pinillos (paramedic), Cristina Gómez (PNN).
  • The project culminated in a delicious meal shared by all present.
  • Happy to be reunited with our comerades and good friends from the organisation International Action for Peace (IAP), who were accompanying the comission throughout the duration of the characterisation. From left to right: Delphine (PBI), Paula (IAP), Natalia (IAP), Miguel (IAP), Hannah (PBI), Ana (IAP).
  • A football match was organised with members of the comission and women from the community to celebrate national women´s day.
  • Many smiles and a lot of laughter.
  • One last photo of the whole comission with accompanying organisations before leaving the camp.
